This week the kids and I started working on word problems. This can be a very tough thing for kids to learn so we are trying the Greg Tang way. This is how we did it.

Here are the steps:
1. Read the word problem.
2. Write the question into a statement.
3. Find the main idea of the story problem and draw a starting line.
4. Read through all the sentences while saying period stop. One step at a time.
5. Draw the tape diagram with labels.
6. Write a number sentence.
7. Do your work to the side by re-writing your number sentence.
8. Last, write your answer in all the correct spots.
